My birthday Gift

My oldest drew this for me for my birthday. I love it!

My birthday was spent on the couch with a horrible sinus infection:( Along with a child was sick. Not really sick, he seems to be developing a alergic reation to something. Which is really scary. Being that we have no idea what the issue is. He keeps breaking out into hives. So no shell fish, nut or chocolate till we see an allergist.

2012 Not a Resolution

I'm not going to call this a resolution. Like many people come this time a year, I've been looking back at the year. Thinking of all I wish I had done or accomplished. Not as much as I hoped for.
So not resolutions.... just things I would like to try to accomplish. LOL:)

1. get back to scrap booking. I'm 2 years behind. Want to be caught up by summer.
2. read at least 2 books a month
3. plan family meals and make 3 new recipies a month
4. family game night... actually do it every week!
5. Lose that last 10 pounds by June. ( I'm down 1.5 lbs already:)

I'll be adding to the list I'm sure as the year goes by.

So happy to be making things again. I made all these over a weeks time. I'm also making progress on my giant stacks of 2 years worth of photos. My goal is to be caught up on my albums by Christmas. We'll see how that goes. My giant stacks have over a thousand photos. No lie:) Hopefully I'll be able to use my Cricut Expressions more. My wonderful husband gave to me for Christmas, I've only used it a few times. All to help the kids with school projects. They turned out beautiful. However, I want to use it for me!

Well over all I was able to save $200.00. Not bad. Still still trying to get down to $250.00 in savings a month.

month has come and gone

the month has come and gone. I was able to spend $200.00 less in groceries. However, we did have to buy new glasses and tires. LOL:) so much for savings. That's life right. Can't wait to see what I do this month.

Okay, so this week I've spend $140.00. More than the $100.00 I was aiming for. However, I was able to purchase meat for next week, buy one get one free. I saved 103.11. $30.00 in coupon savings. I also received a $5.00 gift card from Target. I was able to get a total of 4 things completely free with coupons. I guess you can't know all the ins and outs in a week. I still feel I did a good job this week.

I've asked my parents to save any unused coupons for me. I think I'm going to ask a few more people as well. Really max our savings.

I'm adding on to my challenge. Our grocery bill is out of control! While I'm loving the Extreme Couponing tv show on TLC, I don't want 100 tubes of toothpaste. Or a ton of junk food stock piled for my family. I'm super picky about the type of products I buy. So my add on goal is still to coupon more, but only for products we use and need. Also to cut at least $200.00 out of our grocery expense.

I'm also going to try to get full grocery's twice a month with fillers in between for perishables. To help me do this, I've made out a dinner list for two weeks and bought items I'll need for those dinners. I've also started a spreadsheet divided into sections to see just where in the store I'm spending the most money. This will help me know where I really need to try to save more. The bulk of my bill is in fresh fruits, veggies, dairy and meats. We eat a ton of fresh fruit and veggies, which is great. However, I'm sure I can find good deals on that as well as boxed foods.

So for this weeks shopping I spent a grand total of $340.43 for my family of 5. ( and 2 dogs)
I was only able to save with coupons $13.12, and a total of in store savings of $80.51.

We'll see what next week brings. My goal is to only spend $60.00 on perishables.

Well the month is about over, and I did great with my challenge! Right at my $40.00 limit. I did buy a few new pairs of short, however they were needed. I only had 3 pairs of shorts. So I didn't add that into my budget. Can't wait to keep on going!

Last summer I made a go at not purchasing any new things for myself. Which I failed at. I did last about a month. I was going for 3 months. All summer. I'm human, it happens.

It has come to my attention that others in my life feel I spend hundreds on myself.
So as of today I'm making another go at it. For proof, not only to them, but for myself. Just to see. The thought of quitting cold turkey is appealing, however I know quitting cold turkey with anything is a lot harder. So I'm going to try to step down. Do I spend hundreds a week or month on myself..... NO! But I do pick up a shirt at Target, or my quick trip to the craft store for one thing, ends up being more then one thing.

Rules are as before but with a bit more give in the beginning. I'm going to allot a dollar amount for myself a week, $10.00. $40.00 a month. Then the next month I'll take $10.00 off, and so on. I'm just going to take it a month at a time. Baby steps. After all, I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Keep up with me if you want, or give it a go yourself. I mean how hard can it be:) LOL!

I'm not sure what day I'm on. I did slip up and buy a purse, and a shirt. However, I was on vacation. The shirt was a need. I didn't pack properly ( which never happens) My husband and I went to Grand Haven for a couple of days. Day one, we went for a walk down the board walk. A very long walk. It was going to be a nice low 80, and was over 90. So I was a soaking wet mess by the time we got back to our friends house. So I bought a tee shirt. Then my wonderful bag is a Vera Bradley, that I found like new for only$35.00. Rick did gently remind me of the challenge to myself, and I swore purses were not included. Yeah, I reread my post, it was.

My challenge is still going strong. I've put aside over $100.00 in scrap non purchases. That just paid for my Aerosmith concert tickets. My first concert ever. How sad is that?! I'm 3........ something. And have never been to a concert.

I'm one week down. It's been hard not spending. Especially yesterday when the kids were so bad I actually cried:( Is it to much to ask for 1 good hour? I was at Home Depot, originally taking back a screen door, but then buying paint and stain, oh and a few plants. My husband just built a mini privacy fence and added a ton of landscaping area. So I'm in the flower area and all of a sudden I hear screaming and one of the kids is on the ground with the other one hitting him. Then about an isle over I have another child crying because his brother is calling him stupid. I was so embarrassed. They get into huge trouble for acting that way. It's not like I let them do whatever, whenever. The punishment is still going into today!Sigh:( So all that to say, I think I buy when I'm stressed, then justify it by saying I deserve to buy because I had such a long day. With 3 boys and a hubby, when am I not stressed!? LOL! I'm still going strong though.

My new Venture

I realized something tonight. I spend way to much money on things I don't really need. I was talking with several ladies tonight about how American's have way to much stuff we think we "NEED." Or buy simply because we want to. How we( American's) never really seem to take responsibility for our actions or our spending. Myself included in this. Really not taking responsibility for ourselves is just a fancy, nicer way to say we're selfish. Yes selfish. With our time, and resources. So this got me thinking of my own spending habits. Yikes I know. So this lead to my new venture, challenge really. I'm starting out small. Not because I don't want to be all in or nothing. Small because I know my habits and how hard and unlikely i would be able to quit cold turkey. I don't want to set myself up to fail. So my 3 month challenge to myself is....... To not buy any new clothes, shoes, purses, or jewelry. Anything fashion related. Here's the big one.. oh it'll be hard. To not buy any new stamps, Cardstock, Printed cardstock, embellishments, anything to do with scrapping. Unless I run completely out of a Cs color, or tape. I added that in only because I'll need colors like white and cream to use for scrap page and card backs. Which I will run out of. Along with tape. But nothing else scrap related. Now here's what I'm going to do with the extra cash flow. Every time I have the erdge to buy a new fasion or scrap related item, I'm going to take that dollar amount and put it in to my savings. Just to see how much I can be saving, and how much I really don't need or ever remember I wanted. Yikes. I'm going to be keeping a log of my 3 month journey. Follow along if you want, or not. Whatever. I'm hoping to learn something about myself on this little adventure. At the end of my 3 months I will not be taking my saved money and buying all I wanted, I'll hopefully decide and be ready to take further steps into ending my wateful spending:)

My husband surprised me last Saturday:) He said we needed to drive out to his bosses house, which was over an hour away, to sign papers he forgot to sign on Friday. So we piled all the kids in the car and took a road trip. He even told the kids they could not get out of the car when we got there. So I was totally surprised when he motioned for us to all get out of the car and go into the house. We're walking up to the garage, I'm letting the kids know what will happen if the misbehave inside.LOL! I step into the garage and see puppies and say, " OH! your boss has puppies!" Then it hits me, I turn to my husband and say, " This isn't your bosses house is it?" He smiled and said no, pick one. AHH! I've never been so surprised in my life. I've been wanting a little dog forever. We have a big dog already. Is my husband the best or what?!

My oldest had to make an alien out of recycled materials for a class project. Rick and I helped, just a little. The design was all Noah's idea. We just hot glued it together. Although, I did have to talk him into making the little alien dog. You can see it at the bottom by the milk jars. To cute! It took about an hour, and we need to glue some of it back together again,it feel apart overnight. I think it would make a fun summer project for them. Just to do to pass some time and have fun.

LOL:) B-A-N-A-N-A-S, go bananas, go go bananas! Was a cheer from high school that has never left me. Whenever I say bananas I say this cheer either in my head or at home I'll say the cheer then do a little dance, much to the embarrassment of my older boys. Who are to cool for that. Caden, my 4 year old loves it. Wow all that to explain why I have a bottle of bananas on my blog. Well this was my Valentine's gift. I told my husband a few weeks ago that I wished they made just the banana and strawberry runts. So he bought 4 boxes of Runts candy and sorted out the banana's and put them in this jar for me:) How cute is that!? For all you Runt lovers...... they've change a few flavors! The got rid of the gross lime and red apple, and replaced them with a very yummy grape and green apple. Also, the pink strawberry is no longer pink, it's red. Love it! They're even better now!! It's okay to laugh. I get excited over the craziest things.

I was accepted, Yippie! What is a card Angel you might ask? Well...... It is with the Chemo Angel program you can find the link to the site in the sidebar under sites with a cause. They have 2 different programs. One for sending just cards, the other for sending cards and small gifts. To a patient your assigned to who has cancer.I signed up for the Card Angel. It doesn't have to be a pen pal relationship, just a warm pick me up to someone who's going through a hard time in there life. You have to fill out a form and you can be denied. I'm excited, I haven't gotten my patient yet, it might take a month to be assigned one.

Not to be to cheesy but, Happy Birthday to ME!! I'm 30!

I had a wonderful birthday. My hubby took the day off work so he could wait on me hand and foot all day long. He made me a very yummy breakfast. Then attempted to take me shopping for my gift. A new set of Prisma's. I had a 50% off coupon to Jo-Anne's. Of course they were out. Then we went over to Macy's so I could buy my face wash. Yep, they were CLOSED for an inventory day. LOL! Only me. I just laughed it off, things like that ALWAYS happen to me/us. My hubby felt so bad.
My mom cooked my birthday dinner. Which she does for everyone in our family for birthdays. I love it. We pick whatever we want. Mine is always the same. Homemade mac and cheese, with meatloaf. Yummy. As it happens my oldest son's favorite meal is the same thing:) I do the tradition for my family now.

Hi all! My household has not been well:( I had something for a few days, then my middle son had an 102 temp for 4 days. He ended up having strep/ear infection. Anyway. I haven't been in the mood to do anything. I hadn't even done holiday baking yet. Yes, I know it's Christmas Eve! Usually we make cookies and fudge. Lots and lots of fudge.
My baking mojo must be off. I ruined the fudge, simply by not properly reading the directions. I tried to salvage it and got a very nice boiling sugar burn. Then I tried making peanut brittle. Here's the picture of that attempt! This is after I let the pan cool for a bit before I attempted to throw it out. Yeah, not having that. I didn't make cookies I made cupcakes instead. Thank goodness they turned out!

No, I did not make all 13 cards in one day:)
I posted them 3 different times because they wouldn't all upload to blogger at the same time.

I left a few sentiment spots blank for a reason. I hate having a cute card with the wrong phrase on it. This way I'll have a few more options with my cards. All 4 of these cards and a few others that I posted were made with scraps that I won from my Sbs12 sister Dawn. Thanks Dawn!
